For a capital management department, the IT teams started the initiative to align their teams and have a better long-term planning. After a first workshop where methods like Scrum, Kanban, SAFe as an example for a scaling framework have been introduced, it was decided to apply Kanban and SAFe principles to align the teams and the planning with the business departments. The business departments participate and present their high level goals during (almost) quarterly big room planning events and the teams with the product owners derive in that planning the plans for the next 4 sprints and also visualize dependencies and risks for the long-term roadmap. The next step was to assign product owners to teams directly from the business departments and rethink the slicing of the teams based on the overall product value stream.
